Newmarket Festival - July 3 to July 11 June 2010
A ‘Teenfest’ with live bands and acoustic acts gets the town’s fourth annual festival under way this weekend at Newmarket College. It’s followed, across the week, by a number of firsts and a distinct sporting flavour as the town looks towards London 2012.

Cricket returns to The Severals for first time in many years. There’s a 10k run plus fitness and cricket sessions. The popular three-day racing festival will attract thousands to the July course with Ladies Day on Thursday and the Darley Cup on Friday.

Former England goalkeeper, Gordon Banks OBE, joins Wales and Lions Rugby Union star, Ieuan Evans, as the principle guests at the HSBC Sporting Dinner.

On Saturday, a ‘Street Scene and Craft Fayre’ is being staged in Sun Lane with craft and gift stalls music, food and refreshments. The annual carnival – themed ‘Save Our Planet’ - makes its way from The Severals to the Rowley Mile during Saturday afternoon.

There are events all through the week with polo, a charity horse show, there are talks and tours at leading equine veterinary hospitals and the Jockey Club Rooms is opening for tours and teas on Monday.
